GRACE BURNS, D.V.M.

Dr. Grace Burns grew up in a small town in Eastern North Carolina. Her passion for horses began when she started riding at the age of 3. She continued to ride and showed hunter/jumpers up through graduating from college.

Grace received her Bachelor of Science in Biology from Liberty University in 2006. During her undergraduate work, Grace spent two years working as a veterinary assistant at an equine podiatry clinic in Evington, Virginia, where she assisted in surgery, performed treatments, and performed general daily care on laminitic patients.

In 2006 she joined Teigland, Franklin, and Brokken as a veterinary assistant at Delaware Park and at Palm Meadows Training Center before enrolling in veterinary school in 2007. She gained a strong interest in racetrack medicine and continued to work with Teigland, Franklin, and Brokken on her breaks and summers throughout veterinary school.

Grace received her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine from North Carolina State University in May of 2011. During her time there, she was inducted into the Phi Zeta Veterinary Honor Society, received the award for proficiency in Equine Theriogenology, and received the Donald Howard Award for Surgical Excellence in Equine Surgery.

Dr. Burns joined Teigland, Franklin and Brokken as an associate veterinarian in June of 2011. She is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association and the American Association of Equine Practitioners.

Dr. Burns' areas of interest include lameness evaluation and sports medicine, diagnostic imaging, and upper airway evaluation.

In her spare time, Grace enjoys being outdoors, riding, and spending time with her two dogs, Beazie and Maggie.
